Soul Calibur 4 Review

Hey Everyone, this is Brandon the other Admin and creator of the site. I just rented Soul Calibur 4, and then bought it because I found it so addicting and entertaining. So I decided to do a single review on why you should get this game and what makes it so awesome. This is the Xbox360 Review.

Brandon's Review

Story - The story unfolds in Soul Calibur 4. Meeting new challengers and new enemy's like in any other game. You discover untold stories of characters and new views on their persona. The fight for the Soul Edge and Soul Calibur continues. Some want them for power and others to help in someway. In the way of each character lies many enemy's and a new threat by the name of Algol. Algol was once a grand warrior, but like most wanted more power, and in his search found both Soul Calibur and Soul Edge and was merged with the two swords becoming almost invincible. From then on each character takes on Nightmare, Algol or Seigfried at the end of each story. In my opinion I give this story a solid 8/10

Gameplay - The gameplay alone is great. The different fighting styles for each character is the right one. What I mean is they each suit a certain Fighting style. For example Raphael fights in a more old school Royal sword fight, while using a different character like Taki brings on a ninja fighting style, with almost a street fighter " Hidoken " feel if you get me. The freedom alone is not enough, your still in the one and one battle mode, nothing changing from any other Soul Calibur game, but I do have to say adding a few of the new challenges made me feel a lot better. It added to the whole story and more of open world, but like I said not much change in freedom. On to the weapon and character build. You can create 10 characters and 8 weapons for each already made person in the game. That's alot of creating. The clothing options, weapons, everything is completly great. Having to choose from thousands of items, changing the hair, eyes, face, weapons, gloves, shoes everything. Its great overall. I just love customizing my character to my prefrence. One more thing, the level's of difficulties are crazy. The normal difficulty is fairly challenging and I dont mind that, but hard is so hard that its almost impossible for any new person to the Soul Calibur world. So this is why I give the gameplay a 9/10.

Graphics - Almost perfect. The graphics in the game are great, very realistic as though you could touch them. With each texture and light reflecting and showing the true colors and backdrop of the game. The background's and fighting arena's are pretty big and some make it very easy to get knocked off, ( which is my specialty ) and are very cool. From the lava in the background to the eye popping off the walls when you throw your opponent into it. Although this is all great I do have some negitives. Some items on the body go right threw the character or go right threw the body. The lip sync is not that good either, its almost always off completely in some ends of the storyline which disapointed me. I give the graphics a 8/10

Controls - Not much to say about the controls. Different combinations by using different buttons. Some are much harder than others, but otherwise they are really easy to use and to get used to. The controls besides the deadly combo's are very simple and very easy to pick up and start button mashing. I say a good old 9/10

Sound - The sound in the game is quite cool the music in some arena's are awesome, fitting the feel and emotion of the game. Some not so much, and almost sounding the same. I like 2 stages in particular which are the Star Wars stages. I almost forgot to mention them. Yoda and The Apprentice are in the game. The Apprentice is in the upcoming game The Force Unleashed. Yoda, everyone knows him, is a great and powerful warrior. I found it awesome that these Star Wars characters are in the Xbox360 game. In the PS3 version you get the apprentice and Darth Vader. Anyways, on to the rest of the sound. The sounds the people make are pretty much the same as any other game from the Soul Calibur series. I say the sound gets a lower 6/10

Value - The overall game of Soul Calibur 4 is great, its fun, entertaining to kick butt and the online play is great too. Almost no lag, very little, and I mean little. If you like fighting, smashing and destroying then this game is for you. Even if you just like the Star Wars characters its still fun fighting as them and trying new combo's. Its a perfect game for a lot of people. I enjoyed it and I say its a great game to get. There is always something new to do and it wont get dull for quite sometime. I give it an 8/10

Overall - A great game, like I said before. Its fun and very satisfying to button mash the crap out of your enemy's online or just in single player. I love it and I say its worth it to buy the game, or even rent for a week just to try it out. I give this game an 8/10.
