Although there will be a mountain of accessories and customization available from the start, don't expect everything to be free forever when it comes to Microsoft's new avatar system. John Schappert, Microsoft's corporate vice president said in an interview recently that although he wants things to be easily accessible when Microsoft's avatars are launched, there is the possibility that new features could cost you in the future. Is this really surprising though? Not to me. This is going to be a big money making scheme, but a clever one at that. The Microsoft avatars are, what many people are calling, "advanced Mii's". The one big difference is that Nintendo hasn't put a price on their Mii's...yet. Schappert acknowledged the Mii's and said that, "...Nintendo did a phenomenal job integrating them into the Wii games". In other words, he's saying Nintendo's idea was a good one, but Microsoft is the smart one who is going to rake in the dough. Until that time, have fun with your avatars when they are released this Fall.
