Remember two months ago, when I wrote the article on the R4 chip for the DS, which downloaded any DS game you wanted for free? Remember how I said that the more something becomes illegal, the more people are going to use it, despite the warning? Well, my theory has been proven. This time, it's in the case of Will Wright's new game, Spore. Forbes has reported that Spore has been downloaded on file-sharing networks more than 170,000 times since September 1st. People are doing this in retaliation of the games copyright protection, which only allows the game to be activated three times, to prevent mass re-distribution . This is otherwise known as Digital Rights Management (DRM), something that many companies are using on their CD's and video games nowadays. So it seems that I was right after all. By applying DRM to this product, people have become angry and, as a result, are downloading it even more. Maybe these companies should listen to me more. At least my ideas make sense.
