Hello super nerd, level. 56 magical wizards and others... Its me! Brandon B. A.k.a. Vintagebro (c) With another video game review on the request of Brian because we need more posts and what not. So here it is ,a video game review that does not really have a storyline and well its a driving game! The review for " Need for Speed: Shift " . Enjoy.
Story- So as I said before there is no real story, so I'm going to discuss the main objective of the game. You start out with some random English accented guy telling you about making it to the " Need for Speed World Tour " Which is were the best cars race and if you beat that you win the game. There at 4 tears and then the final tour. Inside these tears there are numerous different types of racing you can take part in. From your basic time trials, to a circuit and drifting. All very fun to take part in. When you first start off you get to use a manufacture car and gain money to buy your own car. This game also includes a level up system that allows you to achieve new things as you progress. The two ways you can level up are, getting aggression points and precision points. Aggression is were you crash into the opponents , do burnouts , road rage pretty much. Precision can range from cleanly passing an opponent, staying on the track or following the markers. Know matter what, every time you race you win gain points that will level you up. When you level up you win different things that can help you on your way such as more money, new car parts, or invitation races. You can also win new paint, vinyls , ect... For all of this coming together and having a solid new type of race system , I'm going to give the main campaign a 9/10 .
Gameplay- The gameplay its self is amazing. You really get the feel like you are in the car racing! When I first started playing racing games I never really liked the idea of being in my car, I liked seeing my car and its always how I grew up with car games. When I played Shift, I loved it and I could not go back to how I use to love it. It gives the feeling like your really gear shifting, controlling the car, using brakes, backing up slowly like a real car would. Everything is perfectly put together. All the cars have there very own interior, including gadges, roll bars, stearing wheels, everything is different which makes the game all the better. Although having said all this there are a few little glitches here and there. One time while I was racing in a drift event it said " GO " but it gave me no points while I was doing drifts and for that matter it didnt even have any of the menu bars on the screen. A few times my car glitched into the wall, but it was not very noticeable. With all of this being said the game play is going to get a 9/10.
Graphics- Like I said before with the gameplay, this game really feels like your driving the car. That includes the awesome and stylish looks to the cars and every detail on them. Theres not much to say about the graphics because in my mind there and very well done and it dose not looked rushed at all. The backdrops have there little looks to them as well, not as much detail but still very nice. There are quite a few tracks each having there own look to them including day time like qualities, dusk and the dark night. Every thing looks very crisp and stands out. It is another reason this game gives the vibe like you are in a real race. Although like I said before there are a few times were I noticed some rough looking pillars, or some odd tree's, but none the less it all looks very well done. A solid 9/10 is going to take it again.
Controls- The controls in this game are pretty decent. The reason I say decent is, because there not perfect. Picking up the controller and playing the game are easy, your simple gas button, E-brake and brake. For pretty much every car in tear 1-3 are very easy to handle. In tear 4 and the " Tour " all the cars are insanely hard to handle. At times I would'ent no when to slow down because of how fast the car was going. Having said that purchesing the fastest car with perfect handling and I still slid into the wall and dirt. Its so hard to turn with the faster cars even with perfect handling and braking. The drift cars, no matter what tear your in are hard to handle, just a slight movement to hard you going to do a 180 and hurt your run. Slight movement to light and your not going to drift. You have to hit it perfectly almost every time. Im going to have to give the controls a 6/10.
Sound- The sounds in this game are very well done. The screaching of the tires, the roaring of the engine, every sound is like a real car. Its almost enjoyable just to drive around listing to all the different sounds put together to make one big sound while your driving. Now sadly there is no menu or in game music. I think its a great idea not to have it while your driving, it gives the game the edge like your really racing, and you get to hear all the cool sounds without music, so thats a good idea. As for the menu, I wish they had some music, I mean a hear little tiny sounds, and the sounds when you click a button, but thats it. Its very boring and very life like. It would be a great idea to add an update for a custom add music yourself idea. There are no real bad terrible negatives to the sounds. The sound gets an amazing 8/10.
Value- This game is worth buying. The main campaign is a little short unless you do every single little thing, but its fun to buy all the different cars, pimp them out and level up getting new items to add to your car. There are some negative aspects to this game, but not enough to say its a bad game to buy. If you dont trust me then for sure go out and rent it to try it out for yourself. For what its worth Im going to say a 8/10
Overall- Overall this game like I said, is worth buying. If not buying its worth your time to go out and rent it. Even if your not a racing fan I think this game is for everyone. Everything that makes this game a good game is worth checking out. The effect that realism is put into this game makes it good. The feel like you are in control of the car, changing gears, using the brake, its just like playing a racing game you have played before again, but now its one hundred times better. Go check it out! This game is very fun to play with friends as well, online that is. Anyways this game is going to get a nice 8/10.
