"Project Natal" Becomes Kinect

Microsoft's motion-sensing system, originally given the title "Project Natal" one year ago, has been given an official name: Kinect.

The announcement was made last night at an event in Los Angeles that featured the circus company Cirque du Soleil.

The event was also a precursor to Microsoft's showcase at E3 later this morning.

According to an article on Gamespot.com, Xbox 360 product management director Aaron Greenberg stated that "Sunday is about entertainment, Monday['s E3 conference] is about information."

That could either mean that Microsoft has a lot of great things to inform the public about, or that they simply don't have much of an interesting showcase this year.

One thing is certain, though. Kinect will likely be the biggest focus at Microsoft's conference.

They just have to compete with Nintendo, of course.
