E3: The Sony Conference

So, the Sony conference, while full of content previews, actually failed to wow a lot of people. Could this be the start of Sony's Playstation breakdown? Probably not, but they are definately not going to be at the top of the sales charts for a while. That being said, here is the biggest news from the E3 Sony Conference:

1)PS2 Continuation: Jack Tretton pointed out that the PS2 is still a very popular gaming system and still sells well to this day, even with the PS3 out on the market. He revealed that more than 100 new games would be produced for the PS2 in the second half of 2008. That's unreal! It also makes me wonder what the point of the PS3 is. Why buy one for 500 bucks when you can get a PS2 with new titles for almost 400 bucks cheaper? And especially when a new PS2 bundle with Lego Batman and a Justice League DVD will soon sell for only $150.

2)Ratchet And Clank Future:Quest For Booty: This new R&C game will be released for the PSN for only 15 bucks. Not huge news but what a great deal.

3)PSN Video: Movies can now be rented through PSN for 2 bucks or bought for anywhere up to 15 bucks. These can now also be transfered to your PSP to watch on the road.

4)80GB Cheaper: The 80GB PS3 is going to be cheaper! It will soon sell for only 400 bucks (ya, ONLY) which must suck for the people who bought the 80GB PS3 when it was 500 bucks. Ouch.

5)Finally, the last piece of news I would like to mention is that God Of War 3 was officially announced. This is not a shock, but it was nice to see the new footage. GOW3 is set to be released in 2009.

So, that's it for E3. There were other small third party events but nothing I'm willing to get into. The major conferences were a bit of a letdown this year, but that's bound to happen eventually. All I know is that these video game companies are in a tight race to be the best. For more info, visit IGN.com
