So, while Nintendo did not have as much to show off as Microsoft or Sony, they still gave us a preview of some pretty impressive new titles and peripherals coming to the Wii and DS. The major things that stood out at this conference were:
1)Animal Crossing: City Folk: While I can't say I didn't see this coming, it was still a nice piece of news to recieve. First thing that caught my eye and probably everyone else's eyes was the new WiiSpeak peripheral that will be introduced with Animal Crossing: City Folk. It will allow players to actually speak live to each other while running around in a friends AC Town. This was surprising to me because of Nintendo's strict policy on the safety issue. But hey, it's nice to see them break free of it. Everything else about ACCF seems similar to every other AC game other than the fact that you will be able to send a message directly from your game to a friends cell phones. Amazing!
2)Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars: This is also a surprising bit of news. Nintendo is known for its family friendly style of games, so for a GTA game to come to Nintendo, it's a bit of a shock. The only part that worries me is that it is for the DS. How will the graphic standards of GTA hold up on the DS? We'll have to wait to find out.
3)Call Of Duty: World At War: Sort of speaks for itself really. All I can say is if you're a fan, this will probably excite you. 'Nuff said.
4)Wii MotionPlus/Wii Sports Resort: Wii MotionPlus is a new peripheral that will attach to the bottom of the Wii remote. It will help give the remote a 1:1 motion response and Nintendo has hopes it will increase the joy of playing a Wii game. This peripheral will come boxed with a Wiimote and a new game, Wii Sports Resort. Similar in the idea of it's predecessor, Wii Sports, Resort will have sports on a beach, for example Frisbee catching with a dog. It is being made to showcase the abilities of MotionPlus and looks quite fun.
5)WiiMusic: The last of the showcases of the conference was Miyamoto coming on stage in his normal geeky manner with a Wiimote to his mouth, pretending he was playing a saxophone. Also on stage was a drummer gesturing drumming with a Wiimote and Balance Board. These two, along with a few other Nintendo Reps. helped us get a feel of how WiiMusic, the game we havn't seen a single bit of in 2 years, would play. It seems sort of fun, but probably nothing too exciting. I was curious as to how this game would look, if it was even going to ever be released, and I can honestly say I'm not jumping up and down.
So that's it for the Nintendo Conference. I missed a few things but for more on those and some videos of the news above visit IGN.com and check em' out. I will update tomorrow with the news from the Sony Conference because I'm too tired to keep typing right now. Good Night.
