Batman: Arkham Asylum - Xbox360 Review
Hello my devoted nobodies, its me! Brandon a.k.a. Vintagebro (c)
Here I am with a review to one of the most anticipated comic book games yet! Here is my written review on Batman: Arkham Asylum.
Story- The story kicks off as you, Batman, have re-captured the Joker and are now taking him back to Arkham Asylum. Once you get there you begin to meet some of the classic characters and some new. As returning the Joker to his cell he brakes free and with the help of his army of evil have locked Arkham down. No one gets in, no one gets out. From this point you find your self trying out the new fighting style combat mode in fighting prisoners from Blackgate, which is another prison where they have been trasfered due to a tragic fire * wink wink * . From here out you need to figure out what the Joker's plan is and save Arkham. ( Dont want to give any spoilers )
Im giving the story a solid 8/10. Because they could have added more to it, and made it a little more interesting.
Gameplay- You feel like your the Dark Knight. Jumping, gliding from roof top to roof top, and all the other awesome gadgets Batman has in his arsenal. This game give a real feel, its the between real life and a video game. A few elements let you know its a game but otherwise besides that you feel like your in control planning out your next move to take down the bad guys. There are two main combat choices you get. The simple combat were you walk into a room and go to town on eight to 10 bad guys, sometimes more. The silent predator game mode. This is were you face about six bad guys and you must use the shadows to your advantage. From glide kicking an enemy, to hanging one off a gargoyle, which is always fun. Sometimes theres a few polygons going in your cape, but not very noticeable and only makes you a nit picker if you continue to just focus on his cape. The gameplay amazes me, it really shines and makes this game what it should be. 9/10
Graphics- From a Batman fan to another, I really like what they have done to this game. The buildings, the grass, towers everything really looks tastefully done and a tremendous amount of effort went into making this game. The stylish look to the main classic characters is also a favorite of mine, it has a man made look to it, like a real person could make it them self's. Scarecrow is my favorite villain. Everything is amazing, I mean I can just sum it all up in such a short summary because nothing is truly a bothersome to this game. A few times you make see some off textures, but what game does'nt have that. A nice 10/10 here, you cant really complain.
Controls- What can I say, the controls are really easy to pick up and play. I mean to an extent it gets tiresome trying to pick one of your items to use on the little wheel, but other then that its really simple. From your basic walk and run, your dodge, punch, kick, counter all very simple and self explanatory. Not much eles to say but 9/10 just for the trying to equip your items, they could have made it a tad easyer in my opinion.
Sound- Sound, a key to making a game. Now I can say the sound effects for items, objects and "POW!" "ZAP!" "BLAM!" Are all very nice, the really stand out and make more of a realistic feel to the game. The music has a Batman feel to it. It shines a music glow on the game, its intense when it needs to be and calm and eary when it needs to be. It really flows with the game and and just adds to the awesome experience of this new Batman game. The only problem I have with the sound is the lip sync and some not all the voice acting. The lips were off quite a bit and didnt really look right. Some of the voice acting was poor, but not for the main characters which I guess is better then the other way around. Such as some of the guards, doctors or Blackgate bad guys. They dont really seem to be in the moment. Batman, The Joker and all the other main classic characters really seem like that put there all into their parts. Im going to give the sound a 8/10.
Value- Well I can sum this all up in very short words. Buy this game. Buy it. Your have hours of fun, figuring out new ways to take down your enemies and fight bosses. Ive already played it once and now Im going to play it again on hard. Its worth it to buy this game no matter who you are or what game you like. 9/10
Overall- Like I just said this game is really worth it to buy. It brings a presence of crime solving to the element of just kick'in but. Everything really works together to make this game what it is, the animation, the story, the sounds and the controls just make this game perfect for anyone and everyone who loves batman. I have a few complaints but nothing to do with the game its self. Why not more main batman villans I mean this is arkham asylum where every single evil villain is, why not more. It could have been cool to maybe have some sort of multiplayer on the predator game mode. Otherwise this game is great. A nice 9/10 Overall.
