Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopolous stated this week that a new Rock Band will not be released this year. He said that Harmonix wants to move away from an annual release cycle because of the limits it puts on the developers. In other words, an annual cycle means the same game over and over and over again, with nothing but a few minor tweaks to the formula. This actually seems like a good move because the longer fans have to wait, the more they'll buy when the new thing actually comes out. Also, as 1UP points out, this statement confirms that there will eventually be a Rock Band 3, even though Harmonix and MTV Multiplayer are adamant that it isn't an official project. They're simply trying to do whatever they can to make as much money as they can.
