News + A Nightmare on Elm St : Movie Review

Hello viewers of RewoundEntertaiment! Its Brandon, a.k.a. Vintagebro. I haven't made a post in a long time, so with our site growing and now becoming its own " .com ", I thought I would mention I am currently working on drawing up a new site banner, ad banners and working on updating the overall look of the site. So be sure to check up on the site for new reviews and a new look!
Now, onto the movie review. I recently watched " A Nightmare on Elm Street " which is a remake for the people who don't know there is an original. In fact theres an original 7, as well as "Freddy Vs Jason " , but that's a totally different story. Anyways here's what I saw and my opinion on the remake.

Story: The story starts off quick and gets right to the point. A teenager named Dean keeps falling asleep at a table in a diner and meets a very dark and burnt character, wearing a red and green sweater and welding a glove with razor sharp blades on each finger. The sinister looking character kills Dean in the dream, while before dieing, calling out " your not real! ", in reality it appears that Dean is killing himself in a sleep walking state talking to himself. A young girl named Kris who witnessed Dean " killing himself " then begins having dreams about the same burnt man and refuses to go to sleep for the same reason Dean did, with the fear of dieing in her dreams. She, just as Dean, died a painful death. Kris's ex-boyfriend Jesse was watching her while she slept and then watched her die a horrible death. Panicking, and covered in blood he runs to Nancy's house who is a friend to all the other teenagers that are tied into the story and is also the main Protagonist. Jesse is soon taken to jail for the murder of his ex-girlfriend. Jesse then also has a dream of the burnt man and is then brutally killed. As the story progresses Nancy also starts to have the same dreams about this burnt character who we are later told is " Freddy Kruger " . She then beings to learn who he is and what his motivations are. The storyline follows almost the exact same as the original. Minor details differ the movies, but are practically the same. The story really gets into your head and really makes you think, it plays with your imagination just like the first, which I think really gets you into the story. The story has its own feel to it as well as similar themes from the original, so having said that I give the story a 7/10 .

Writing: As I said about the story the writing is very similar. Freddy still has the fear inflicting powers like the original. The way the story is told from start to finish always keeps you hanging on the edge of your seat. The language is a little darker and more vulgar, which I think really adds to the whole feel of the movie. Simply said the writing was well done. Im giving it a 7/10 .

Acting: Jackie Earle Haley, what can I say about him. He really played a great Freddy. For the Language and character Jackie Earle Haley really nails it. He really gets into the character and scares you, inflicts fear and shines the whole movie. Now having said all this, there were sometimes where you really got to see the face of Freddy and the new make-up. The make-up this time around really focuses on making him look like a real burnt victim. Gritty, destroyed and well, burnt. But the make-up seemed to hold his emotions. Threw the whole movie you didnt really see him make an emotion, no anger, no sadness, nothing. It seemed he only really had a straight face but almost angry, but not quite there. Rooney Mara, who plays " Nancy ", seems to get her character down as well. She shows her emotions, the fear, the curiousness, the sadness. From time to time it looked as if she didnt really get into it, such as when Jesse brakes into her room covered in blood. She seems very confused but not freaking out, which if that was me I would be screaming my head off. Kyle Gallner who plays Nancy's boyfriend seemed to lack in his part. He seemed to get into it but never really looked any different. His emotions and his facial expressions never really changed. He always looked like he was, " down on his luck " the whole movie. Even before Freddy appeared. Overall the acting was pretty good. Some actors held the movie to what it is, without Jackie Erale Haley the movie might have been not as well done. Jackie is no Robert Englund, but he does a great job. 6/10 .

Style: The style of the movie was very similar to the originals. I mean you have to give credit to the original, but with the times, comes change and the visual effects, the mood, and feel to the movie were done nicely. The mood and feel of the movie seemed a little more darker, each set were dark and spooky. For example, the boiler room was dark, and so evil looking. The visuals were amazing especially during the scene where Nancy is in the drug store dreaming. The transition from dream to really was absolutly amazing. I wish the did more of it for the intire movie. All in all the movie was very dark and gritty. Overall its a 8/10 .

Overall: Overall the movie lives up to the original. If you haven't seen the original your going to think its amazing and well done. If you've watched the original and are wanting to watch the remake you'll see a lot of things very similar and you may not like it. I really enjoyed watching it and hope they make a remake of the second one. Even if you've seen the first I suggest going and watching it, and if your looking for a nice scare, I seriously suggest going to watch it. When it makes its way to DVD I'll be sure to pick it up and watch it again. Overall the movie gets a 7/10 .
Thanks for taking the time to read this review. Be sure to check out more new movie reviews, game reviews and more!

Crazy "Kick-Ass" Trailer

Wow, it's been a while, huh? Almost two months since our last post, but we're still alive!

Now, there is a very important video you need to see. Below is the newest trailer for the upcoming film Kick-Ass, set to be released on April 16, 2010. Warning: there is some explicit language in this trailer, but hell, if you can't handle it, go somewhere else. Kick-Ass looks amazing and for good reason. It is based on Mark Millar's graphic novel of the same name. This is going to be a must-see film, if only to witness 12-year-old actress Chloe Moretz (Hit-Girl) say "c*nt" one more time.

p.s: Don't forget about our new and improved site coming in the new year!

Liberace on Film

Michael Douglas will officially be portraying the famous pianist Liberace in Steven Soderbergh's upcoming film of the same name. Also starring in the film will be Matt Damon, who is set to play Liberace's lover, Scott Thorsen. That means that Douglas and Damon will probably...well, no need to go too into details on that one. If you're interested, you will have to wait a little while longer until an official release date for Liberace is revealed.

Zombieland Cast at Comic-Con

Movies Online has a great interview with the cast and crew of the upcoming film Zombieland. Emma Stone is even a part of it, and honestly, she really is the only thing this movie has going for it (see The House Bunny and you'll know what I mean). Zombieland looks interesting enough, but I'm not sure if it will be a box office hit. So, click below and enjoy the interview!

District 9 - Movie Review

Peter Jackson's new sci-fi flick, District 9, has been the talk of the town ever since it was first revealed. It seems everyone I have talked to has wanted to see it, and so have I. I have to admit, and I think I'm going to get a lot of flack for this, that I don't think it's as amazing as everyone else seems to think it is.

Now first of all, I didn't hate it. The metaphor of racial tension and nods to things like the Holocaust and, more recently, the problems in the Middle-East, were pretty compelling and the special effects were fantastic (something I knew Peter Jackson would pull off well). What turned me off was the obvious grabbing for emotions by making the aliens such powerless victims, and the poor acting. Sure, just because the actors aren't big-name ones doesn't mean they can't make a good film. But unfortunately, I think more popular actors would have helped this film immensely. I find it funny that out of everything in this film, I find the acting to be the most unbelievable aspect.

The documentary style of story is a great idea, but I wish it would have been put to better use. The first quarter of the film is unique and haunting. The second and third quarters drop off into some strange, over-emotional realm, and finally, the fourth quarter of the film is an action packed conclusion. So, you can see what's missing here; a well-developed plot.

Again, the special effects are wonderful, but that's simply not enough to save a pretty predictable and bland sci-fi thriller. I believe, however, that District 9 is going to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer.

1 Year of Rewound + Movie Review

Well, this is it. This is the day it all began one year ago. We honestly never thought that Rewound Reviews would last this long, simply because it has been a few times before that I've personally lost interest in blogging. However, I'm glad to say that we've never lost interest in this and now, a year later, Rewound Reviews is still thriving. Sure, we don't get many views or comments, but we do it for the love of writing and sharing the entertainemnt world to everyone. Now, what better way to celebrate one year than to post a review, just like we did when we started this site a year ago. Today's movie review is for Public Enemy, the new Johnny Depp movie. If you haven't seen it, read this review now and save yourself the headache of watching the film later.

Okay, I have to start off by saying that the biggest reason I went to see Public Enemy was the fact that Johnny Depp was in it. Any movie with him in it usually shines. But, after sitting through only 20 minutes of this mess, I realized that even he couldn't save what was turning out to be a true trainwreck of a film, one that is a definate stain on Depp's record. The acting was atrocious (even on Depp's part), the dialogue was incredibly cheesy, and the camera work was, for lack of a better word, horrible. I was thoroughly disappointed.

For a film about a high-class bank robber, love and relationships seemed to be the outstanding themes. I am bewildered as to why the director, Michael Mann of Hancock fame (remember how good that movie was...), didn't use Depp's wide variety of acting capabilities. Instead of a slick, smart, rude, and relatable Dillinger, we get an over-emotional and unbelievable kid-in-a-costume actor. And don't even get me started on the other members of the cast. Christian Bale was terrible as Melvin Purvis, Marion Cotillard kept flowing in and out of a ture accent, and Channing Tatum...well, enough said about him. The one major thing that I simply couldn't stand is how shoddy the camera work was. It was in and out of slo-mo at times and swapped from still-cam to shaky-cam too often. It was a very unfortunate problem.

Only die-hard crime film enthusiasts may find a sliver of enjoyment in Public Enemy. Even then, many may find that the quality of the film is overall pathetic, and may not be able to get over the fact that there were quite a few historical inaccuracies. Michael Mann simply tried to do too much with a story that would have been great if toned down. Unfortunately, I have give this film a grade of D. If you can, stay away from this movie, just like you would the real John Dillinger.

Movie Review - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

I can't believe it! I actually like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The second in the effects-spectacular movie series, RotF's events take place two years after where the first movie left off. This time around, Sam Witwicky is trying to live a normal life, and is set to go to college. Unfortunately, his love life, home life, school life, and ambassador for the Autobots life (if that makes any sense), is turning things upside down. The Decepticons have put out a new threat against the survival of humanity as we know it, and now Optimus Prime needs Sam's help to stop this threat. The government is standing in the way of the Autobots, so defence from the Big D's seems impossible. After what seemed like an incredibly long, monotonous journey, ripe with the death of Optimus and kidnapping of Sam's parents, Sam and the Autobots save the world. So, if it was such an arduous view, why am I saying I like it? Simple. It was chock-full of action and special effects that are necessities of a summer blockbuster. I have to admit, I wish there was a little more focus on the Transformers themselves, considering half the film was about Sam's sexual urges toward Megan Fox, but I love it for what it is, and I have to stop expecting it to be like the original TV series.

As for the message of the film, I really couldn't sort one out. I guess the moral of the story is to never lose a piece of the AllSpark if you happen to have a chunk of it. Yeah, that doesn't really hold up in real life, I suppose. Again, romance and action seemed to be the outstanding themes behind the film, so if you're reading this and have seen the film, and can think of something more to this Transformers story, please let me know.

Now, if there is anything I will give this film a big thumbs up for, it would have to be it's special effects. The Transformers looked amazing, the scenery was awe-inspiring, and the explosions were absolutely rockin'. Michael Bay can't direct a good plot, but he can direct some serious action. Good on him!

Anyone over the age of 30 most likely won't enjoy Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen . For everyone else, though, I do consider this film a must-see. Even if you're not a Transformers fan, the effects alone garner a recommendation. Overall, I would have to give this film a B, simply because the action is awesome, but the story is more mashed up than Shia LaBeouf after his car accident.

Movie Review - Land of the Lost

I find watching Will Ferrell extremely hard to do. His style of humour is somewhat unusual for me, although I know many millions of people enjoy it. I have to admit though that in Land of the Lost, I found him bearable. He actually did quite an impressive job, but I will get to more on that in a minute. First, here's the breakdown of what I believe to be one of the best comedy films of the year.

Story: This film is, if you didn't already know this, based on the 1974 TV Series of the same name. I have never actually watched that show, but that didn't hurt my viewing experience for this film. Rick Marshall (Will Ferrell) and Holly Cantrell (Anna Friel) are two scientists who, when on a lame Devil's Cave attraction tour to search for tachyons (time warp molecules), get thrown into an alternate universe with their tour guide Will Stanton (Danny R. McBride). From this point on, action ensues as the three "heroes" try to escape this alternate universe while saving their butts from dinosaurs, aliens and other strange monsters. On their journey they meet a strange ape man named Cha-Ka (Jorma Taccone), who adds a nice touch of silent humour. This is the most basic of sci-fi story forms around, but it just works so damn well! 9/10

Writing: The humour is quick, rich and often dirty, but it never falls short. Every joke seems to hit with a smack to the face that tells you to laugh in the most irresponsible way, and it's fun to feel that way. On top of that, there is a perfect blend of action and dialogue that keeps the film flowing at a fast pace and keeps the viewer interested and wanting to hear every word. The writers simply did an outstanding job. 10/10

Acting: Again, Will Ferrell is not my favourite actor in the world, but this is probably the first film he's done that I've found him to be genuinely funny in. The co-stars also do a great job of playing up the fact that Rick Marshall has his stupid and smart moments. I especially liked Cha-Ka. He's so obnoxious, which I find to be a great quality in movie characters (strange, right?). I don't know if the movie would have been as great if it weren't for the hilariously wonderful actors. 9/10

Production: What I loved most about this film is that it looked and felt like an old 70's sci-fi show. The settings were campy and the creatures were wildly amusing and beyond imagination. It's really hard to explain what I'm talking about. You just have to see it to understand. This movie's budget was, wait for it, $100 Million dollars! I have to admit, it all went to good use, at least from what I could see. A lot of critics seem to be pointing their thumbs down for Land of the Lost, but they're all wrong. I'm right. Go see this movie now! 9/10

Overall: As I stated before, this is one of the best comedy films of the year, if not the best. Will Ferrell is actually funny and the style is so campy, it's fantastic. If you like sci-fi or comedy films, this is a must see. I give Land of the Lost a big 9/10!

Dragonball Evolution Review

Dragonball Evolution
Movie Review.
By: Brandon B. A.k.a. Vintagebro

Hello reader, its Brandon with a new review, I just had to do this review on one of my favorite classic tv shows as a young boy. Now that I have grown up I can expresses my emotions for the terrible movie. Im going to be very hard on this movie considering its reputation, and hope you enjoy my review.

Story:
Dragonball evolution starts out "Goku" the main protagonist training with Grandpa gohan, which is quite accurate for the time. The battle scene was very poorly done, crouching shadow blast, never heard of it, and looked terrible to preform. Later in the story we discover its Goku's birthday, and Grandpa Gohan gives Goku a dragonball, which then he goes on to explain a tale along time about about "Nammiks" and "Piccolo" which again is correct. Goku is a teenager, which is wrong, Goku in no way have much defenition to his body, which makes him look skinny and like a big dork. Back to the story, Goku leaves his home to go to "Chi-Chi's" party which then Piccolo comes and destory's Goku's home and grandpa Gohan dies. This could be accurate, not much in the anime was it really discussed how he dies. Goku must find all the dragonballs befor "lord" Piccolo finds them to destory the world. A tipical plan, get something , blow up the planet. The way the story goes its not looking very good. The action was very poorly done , which added a distasteful feel to the movie. Im giving the story a fat 3/10.

Writing:
As I explained in the story catagory, the movie aduptation is poorly done. The word play is terrible, the basic outline trying to re-create this awesome tv show is no where near as great. How some characters like "Bulma" and "Yamcha" some how almost dispise one another in the beginning of there meeting to not 10mins later there falling in love. Trying to cram a tv show that has so many saga's isnt such a great idea. Nothing seemed to blend well, everything seemed to just happen with little explenation. Writing I will give a 3 as well.

Acting:
What can I say that has not already been said. The main characters seem to try to fit as they anime versions, but at times seem almost stupid or imature. Goku remains to eat a lot no matter what it is, which is accurate. Goku also seems to be a " scardy cat" to be able to talk to girls, expand in the world and never smilies. Almost through the hole movie I think I saw him smile one or two times that's it. The fight scenes, dont get me started. The battles, the energy blasts all very well rendered are terrible, horrific if I dare go that far. Chi-Chi seems to be two sided, crazy happy sometimes, which in the anime shes always angry over something and then she becomes angry, like over the top " Im going to kill someone" angry. She seems to know everything, about Goku, Kai, fighting, and it all just seems to get thrown out there like we new this would happen. Bulma and Yamcha seem to be ok as depicted. Bulma is a bit of a disapointment because she seems more shot now ask questions later, and has less gadgets has hoped for, and no she has no blue hair, only a stripe. Yamcha, seems to be the same, although he has blonde hair, which I dont understand. Roshi and Piccolo. Roshi seems to always be happy, and almost dumb founded. He seems to be such a great trainer, yet when Goku turns into Ozaro the great ape she gets chocked and killed in one shot. Piccolo, hes always angry, nothing eles," Rawr do this, do that " and then in the end dies from a simple one punch, energy blast and some sort of flying Kame ha me ha. All the acting was so-so. To a little extent people remained the same, although more negative then positive.
Acting is getting a 2/10.

Style:
As much as they tryed to live up to creating a Dragonball adduptation they failed. Although I have to say they did remain true to Goku's costume, using some real dragonball moves and the characters names. I just dont think its worth all this wait and atisipation. Everything seemed rushed and low budget, like no one seemed to care if it was good or not. Im going to give the style a 4, only because it had more positive the bad. 4/10.

Overall:
Over all I think this movie has so many pitfalls I cant explain anymore. This movie could have been much more promising had someone took a little more time developing everything. The characters, the plot, the time, the setting. This movie is not worth your 10 dollars, if anything wait till it becomes a movie in the 3.99 bin. This movie is worth a 3/10 or 1 star out of 5.

Besure to read more of my reviews to come.
If you like dragonball or feel this is an inaccurate statement about this movie, this is only a review and an opinion, please dont be offended.

Movie Review: The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

I've never read the book, but the film version of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is so magnificent, I think I might just find a copy and start reading.

A touching and disturbing film all at once, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas tells the story of an eight year old German boy, Bruno, and his life with a Nazi officer father, his mother and his twelve year old sister and their placement close to a Nazi concentration camp. Bruno, curious about the "farmers" who live there, decides to venture out, against his parent's wishes, and visit the camp. As he soon learns, those "farmers" are actually Jewish prisoners who are literally being worked to death. During his visits to the camp, he meets a Jewish boy, also eight years old, who sits and chats with him across the fence. They become good friends, and after a series of politically charged events at home, Bruno decides to dig under the fence and meet the young Jewish boy on the other side. Once in the camp, they begin to search for the boy's father, only to end up meeting a terrible fate of which I will not mention. It would ruin an emotionally charged ending. Believe me, though, it is amazing.

The acting is spectacular. Asa Butterfield, who played Bruno, was especially fantastic. He is simply one of the best child actors I have seen in a while. One complaint I have, however, is that although the film is set in WWII Germany, every person has a British accent. Why?! It seems that so many movies nowadays use British accents in place of the appropriate European accent. It doesn't hurt the film too much, but it would have been nice to hear some sort of German somewhere in the movie.

I am absolutely pleased with The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. This film needs to be seen by everyone. It's themes of racism, family, and truth are truly universal. I am going to read the book now, and I will report back on just how accurate the movie was to it's roots. This is a must watch. Tell your family and tell your friends about the greatness that is The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.

2009 Movie Preview

Let's face it, a lot of movies in 2008 sucked. Don't get me wrong, there were definate gems, but when you look at ones like Disaster Movie or Meet The Spartans or that god awful Love Guru, you want to vomit a little bit. 2009, however, is looking to be a good year for movies, as long as the writers and directors don't completely screw their movies up. Let's take a look at 12 movies that are sure to have everybody talking.

1.Watchmen (March 6th)
Starring: Patrick Wilson, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode

This comic-to-movie adaptation has gained a lot of hype, and for good reason. So far it looks fantastic, and better yet, it's not a Batman or Spiderman movie! It makes me want to shout for joy. Finally, something fresh and exciting for the Comic Book movie genre. I have very little knowledge of some of the actors in this film, but that's no reason to worry. It means some fresh faces in a time when all other actors seem to be type casted. Check out the trailer here. It's worth the 2 minutes.

2.G.I. Joe: Rise Of Cobra (August 7th)
Starring: Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller, Dennis Quaid

Every G.I. Joe fanboy out there is squirming with angst at the release of this movie. It will be set 10 years in the future, and other than it starring Channing Tatum, this film looks like it could be good. There's really no more to it. Just imagine the G.I. Joe name we all know and love. Except Channing Tatum. I hate him.
Oh, and I almost forgot. Joseph Gordon Levitt is playing Cobra Commander. Yep. Google him and you'll see what I'm talking about.

3.Sherlock Holmes (November 20th)
Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams

I'm actually quite curious about how this film will turn out. I'm sure it was no easy task to properly portray the Holmes characters on film, but it must have been even harder when Robert Downey Jr. was accidentally punched and knocked unconscious by one of the actors during filming. Yikes. Anyways, it's still a while away and no trailer has been released as of yet. We'll just have to keep waiting.

4.2012 (July 10th)
Starring: John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover

Another disaster film that is sure to be a flop, yet it seems to keep getting publicity. John Cusack is a great actor, but I just don't see this film fitting his style. Check out the teaser trailer here, as long as you're not tired of these movies by now.

5.Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen (June 26th)
Starring: Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel

Michael Bay did something right with his first Transformers movie in 2007, so expect greatness with this one. Mr. LaBeouf (however you say it) will return as Sam Witwicky to cause all sorts of shenanigans with his Bot Buddies. Sure to be a thrill.

6.Terminator Salvation (May 22nd)
Starring: Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin

So, what's the first thing that stands out about the information just given. NO ARNIE! Finally, we can all offically say he's no longer in the movie industry. So, ya, that's all I gotta say. Looks good, and is probably only being released because of the success of the TV series. Check the trailer here.

7.Dragonball: Evolution (April 8th)
Starring: Justin Chatwin, James Marsters, Chow Yun-Fat

Well, it was going to be done eventually. A live-action Dragonball movie is coming this April. All the anime nerds are excited, and everyone else is confused. It's like Christmas with a bunch of drunks. It sure does...look...compelling and...cool...NO, I must not give in to the Japanese forces at work. It will not happen. Or maybe it will. We'll see. The trailer is here.

8.Saw VI (October 23rd)
Starring: Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor

Not much is known about the next Saw sequel, but at least it's gonna be gory. Watch for this one in October.

9.Astro Boy (October 23rd)
Starring: Freddie Highmore, Nicolas Cage, Nathan Lane

Ok, so here it is. The first 3D animation on the list. It sounds okay, but I'm not sure if this anime inspired film will hit as big as Dragonball. It will probably only do as good as Speed Racer. Good luck to it anyway. Here's the teaser.

10.The Wolfman (November 6th)
Starring: Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt

This movie looks awesome. The promotional image of Del Toro alone is enough to garner some attention. Look for more info in the coming months.

11.The Pink Panther 2 (February 6th)
Starring: Steve Martin, John Cleese, Jean Reno

I loved the first Pink Panther movie with Steve Martin, but it seemed lots of other didn't. Well, it did something right because here comes the sequel. I'm not sure if it will be as funny (the formula seems a little tired now), but who knows, it could be huge. Check out the trailer here.

12.Star Trek (May 8th)
Starring: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg

Again, the nerds are having sci-fi orgasms over this film. I'm not a fan of Star Trek myself, but I'm confused about how Simon Pegg will take on his role as Scotty. I just can't take him seriously after all his comedy films (which were all good by the way). Check the trailer here.

So, there you have it. The 12 films I feel will become the talk of the town. There's lots of other films though, so get ready for a Hollywood 2009!

Merry Christmas At The Movies

With Christmas right around the corner, let's take a look at a couple movies that will be hitting theatres on Christmas Day.

First, The Spirit. This movie was written and directed by Frank Miller, the man behind 300 and Sin City. And like those movies, this one was filmed entirely with green screen. The movie is based on the comic book of the same name created by Will Eisner. It's about a rookie cop rising from the dead to fight crime in Central City. Sounds like another cheesy comic-to-movie adaptation, but it looks great. Check out the trailer below.

Next is Valkyrie. This film, set in WWII Germany, depicts the accounts of German army officers on July 20, 1944 who attempted to assassinate Adolf Hitler. The movie seems interesting enough, but the one thing turning me off of seeing it is the fact that Tom Cruise has the starring role. I just don't see him doing a good job of playing a German officer, and I believe it's going to kill the feel of the movie. I mean, honestly, the guy doesn't even attempt to have the faintest German accent. How pathetic. Check out the trailer below.

So, this will be our last post until after Boxing Day. Have a safe and merry Christmas everyone, and don't forget, only 2 shopping days left!

The Worst Movie Opening In History

Have you heard of Fathom Studio's new animated movie Delgo? Apparently you're not the only one. If you haven't heard by now, Delgo holds the record for the worst opening box office weekend in movie history. How bad you ask? $2 Million? $1 Million? No, even worse than that. A pathetic $511,920 was all this crap-ass movie made. Not surprising either. The animation clearly sucks, and the story? Well, many critics are saying that it's just a bunch of fanatasy movies like Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings mulched together into one. Too bad Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt and Chris Kattan had to be part of this failure. It's a true shame.

By the way, this movie started production in 1999. Yes, that's right. 9 years in production, and the animation looks like crap. It's mind boggling that they couldn't get it right. If you don't believe this movie could possibly be as bad as I've described, just watch the trailer below. That's all you need to realize the truth.

The Rewind: The Nightmare Before Christmas

Welcome to the first installment of The Rewind. It's a look back at video games, tv shows and other things, good or bad, that will send the nostalgia meter flying. First up is The Nightmare Before Christmas, Disney's stop-motion classic from 1993.

Tim Burton's incredible tale of when Halloween haunts meet Christmas cheer has solidified its spot in movie history. The story is perfect in every way. It's original, imaginative, and memorable. When Jack Skellington, Halloween Town's bad will ambassador, stumbles upon Christmas Town, he realizes how wonderful Christmas is and decides to celebrate it back at home. Many hijinks occur, including the accidental kidnapping of the Easter bunny, before the climax of the film begins. One of Halloween Town's residents, Sally the rag doll, predicts the terrible events that are to happen on Christmas if Jack goes through with his plans. Ultimately everything fails, and it's up to Jack to save the kidnapped Santa and Sally from the wackily evil and gambling addicted Oogie Boogie.

Now, this story may seem like a simple mumble jumble of holidays, but what brings it all together is the amazing writing and emotion put into it. If you have never seen this movie in your life, get out from under your rock and watch it. It is totally worth it.

The animation is superb, considering it took 3 years to finish this movie using nothing more than stop-motion animation, right down to the facial expressions. Tim Burton put his classic haunting touch on it by inventing dark and wacky characters and creepy environments. On top of all that, Danny Elfman wrote the music for this movie, and as we all know he is one of Hollywood's greatest composers. The songs have become classics themselves, and you've probably heard someone singing the theme song at least 50 times in your life.

The Nightmare Before Christmas was one of the last great Disney movies ever made, followed only by The Lion King and Toy Story. Younger kids today have the unfortunate luck of having to grow up with strictly 3D animation films. What a shame it is. Again, if this film is not in your collection, get it now. It pays for itself after just one watch.
